OUR MISSION STATEMENT
The Education for Sustainable Living Program (ESLP) is a student-led organization committed to empowering students to take action in the climate crisis. Our program creates collaborative learning environments through UCSC-accredited courses for students of all backgrounds to learn the skills needed to transition toward a society that prioritizes the planet and its people.
The importance of Student-initiated programs
ESLP works to foster intentional learning between students while creating a culture around taking action.
We currently offer a unique student-facilitated courses for university credit:
CRSN 61/161: HOPE, AGENCY AND THE INTERSECTIONALITY OF THE CLIMATE CRISIS
This spring series is a student-run course on topics covering the climate crisis, sustainability and environmental injustices, every spring quarter at the University of California Santa Cruz. Our class holds speaker series and workshops, which is based upon sustainable living topics found in the Blueprint for a Sustainable Campus. The 2-unit ESLP Spring Class, CRSN 61, qualifies as a prerequisite for UCSC's Sustainability Minor and may be substituted for Sociology major credit. Speak with your adviser to learn about your options.
JOIN ESLP!
The Education for Sustainable Living Program is looking for students to join our space of community learning, environmental justice, and sustainability for the 2024-2025 academic school year!
ESLP believes intersectional environmentalism and sustainability must start within education. Our team is focused on reshaping the way we as students learn by fostering a space of peer-to-peer learning and having intentional discourse about the nature of our unprecedented time. What actions do we need to take toward sustainability and environmental justice? Who do we need to talk to? What actions can be taken on campus? Our mission aims to address these questions.
We provide the opportunity to plan and design a UCSC course that include learning skills about facilitating, communication, contacting guest speakers, designing our own curriculum, collaborating with other organizations, and more. ESLP is also supporting Enviroslug's No Time to Waste campaign aiming to create a more sustainable campus for future communities.
